Gemotions

The phone felt heavy in her hand. Sarah sat on the front porch, the setting sun casting long, distorted shadows. Her mother had just called, her voice full of a serene conviction. “I’ve found solace in the Baha’i Faith, dear.” Sarah ran her fingers through her hair, a familiar gesture.

The world seemed to spin slightly. She had been dealing with a string of problems all day long; a leaky pipe, a forgotten bill, a flat tire. Now, this. She felt a bone-deep weariness, as though she were wading through molasses.

She took a shaky breath, the air thick and heavy with unspoken anxieties. She didn't have the energy for this.
